Jean Zimmerman Author Jean Zimmerman examines the changing role of women in America though the story of a female-dominated New York family. Beginning with Margaret Hardenbroeck Philipse in 1659, the Philipse women built a fleet of ships, a grand church and a glorious mansion. Their dynasty lasted through Mary Philipse Morris in the mid-1700s. Zimmerman has written four books including the recent The Women of the House: How a Colonial She-Merchant Built a Mansion, a Fortune, and a Dynasty.
