Day of Learning on Women

Tue 6 Feb, 12 pm. Day of Learning on Women, Gender Equality, and the Law in Israel Featured speaker Dr. Ruth Halperin-Kaddari will deliver a lecture titled “Women's Rights and the Politics of Divorce in Israel.” Following lunch and conversation, attendees are invited to a screening of two provocative recent films which cast light on women's position under rabbinic family law in Israel. The Cohen's Wife, is a drama made at the Orthodox film school, Ma'ale, about how a couple deals with the fallout when the wife is sexually assaulted. Mekudeshet (Sentenced to Marriage) follows women and their toanot (female rabbinic court advocates) through their struggle to receive divorces from their husbands.
