Parenting Mindfully: Drawing on Jewish Values through Musar

Thu 8 Nov. 2031 Third Avenue, seattle, 98121. Suzanne rothenberg, 206 774 2231, suzanner@jewishinseattle.org. Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle - [events]

What: Mindful parenting, parenting from the inside out…these very contemporary ideas about self-reflection have a strong connection to Jewish tradition. Musar, founded in the nineteenth century, is a body of literature focused on exploring and improving one’s character.

Musar asks each of us to become more aware of how we handle emotions and express beliefs and values. We will present an overview of Musar and how it can help you reflect on your behaviors and interactions with others, and build positive connections. Musar also helps us examine how we model our beliefs and ideals: we all want our children to grow up with good values and a strong character-and we know that primary way children learn this is by watching us! Musar is a model that emphasizes personal ethics and balance, and can be incorporated into a variety of parenting styles. Come learn about how these traditional concepts can inform 21st century parenting. Presented by Rabbi Yohanna Kinberg of Temple B’nai Torah and Marjorie Schnyder of Jewish Family Service.
