When: December 06, 2010 | 07:00 PM to 08:30 PM Where: Boston, MA 02110 Special Features: Idealists, Ideologues and Rogues: Who Owns the Discourse on Human Rights? An inquiry on the 62nd Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
For 62 years, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) has been a source of hope for hundreds of millions of vulnerable peoples around the world. Now, in the UN and hotspots around the world, a fierce debate has broken out. Do some human rights organizations give cover to rights abusers? Has the struggle for human rights been co-opted to advance political agendas that may have little to do with protecting the rights of vulnerable peoples? Have "human rights" claims become a club to wield against one's enemies; particularly the United States and Israel?
Please join us for this forum in our ongoing series dedicated to exploring the uses and abuses of the great ideals animating humanity's quest for freedom.
