Tuesday, May 24, 2011, 7pm: Magda Altman Schaloum was born in Hungary in 1922. She was deported to Auschwitz after the occupation of Hungary by the Germans in 1944. Her sister avoided deportation thanks to one of the protective passports from Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg. Magda was later transferred to forced-labor camps in Poland and Germany. She and fellow prisoners were rescued in late 1945 by Allied troops. A speaker with the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center, Magda shares her experiences on behalf of all Holocaust survivors and their families.
