For those, who don't want to camp, an alternative hiking trip that takes you through amazing scenery of the Andes Mountains while staying in beautiful mountain lodges, you can add some cultural days beforehand to get you acclimated. You can go hut to hut via hiking or by horseback. You do not hike on the claimed Inca Trail, but you do hike to Machu Pichu and on the way instead of camping and sleeping bags, you enjoy 5 star accommodations with gourmet food, outdoor hot tubs to enjoy the mountain views, fireplaces in rooms.
