Monday, February 21, 2011 | 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM The Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life presents a lecture by Derek J. Penslar, the Samuel Zacks Professor of Jewish History at the University of Toronto. Penslar will examine Jewish experiences in, and historical views on, military service. He will explore how they have changed in the wake of the Holocaust and since the establishment of Israel, and he will also analyze the different attitudes toward Jewish war veterans in the Diaspora and war veterans in Israel. Arie Kaplan has recently returned from Krakow, Poland, where he was a guest speaker at the Jewish Culture Festival. At the Festival, he spoke about various pop culture-related subjects, such as the history of Jews and comic books, the history of Jews in comedy, and the history of Jews in film.
