Tue 4 May, 7 pm. 1001 Watertown Street, West Newton, 02465. Sara Rubin, 617-244-9899, info@bjff.org. Boston Jewish Film Festival - [events]

Coming in early May: a rare chance to see the first three episodes of Israeli TV’s hit series, “Srugim,” with director Eliezer Shapiro in person. Date and time: Tuesday, May 4, 7PM Location: West Newton Cinema Tickets: $15 general admission; $12 discounted for students, seniors (65+), members of The Boston Jewish Film Festival and WGBH members. Purchase tickets online by credit card at www.f. Suitable for teens.

This television series depicts the lives, loves, and dilemmas faced by modern Orthodox Jewish 30-something singles living in Jerusalem’s Katamon neighborhood (known as “the swamp”). It has captivated Israelis of all religious persuasions in the same way that “Friends” enthralled Americans for a decade.

The title “Srugim,” by the way, comes from the Hebrew word for the crocheted kipot (head-coverings) worn by modern Orthodox men.

Co-presented by the Consulate General of Israel New England.
