Villa Jasmin, directed by Férid Boughedir (France, 2008, 87 min., 35mm) by the director of Summer in La Goulette. Villa Jasmin by Férid Boughedir (2008, 87 min., in French and Tunisian Arabic with English sutitles). Based on Serge Moati's novel, Villa Jasmin is a compelling and passionate love story. Serge Moati (Clément Sibony), a French Tunisian of Jewish descent, returns to La Goulette, Tunisia in search of his family’s roots. Serge explores his parent's history from the 1920s and the impact of the Vichy Government under German Occupation in the 1940s. Despite the hardships his parent’s faced, Serge finds solace as he discovers his parents' love for each other sustained them through good and bad times.
