"Traditions and Visions of the Changing Role of Art in a Jewish Community." Together with the art show scheduled at Etz Hayim for May 29, 30 and 31, there will be a special exhibit showcasing unique Jewish art and ritual objects from within our community, specifically Tallit, Hanukiah and Microcalligraphy Contact Etz Haim Synagoue at 432-0004 for additional information.
Tallit
come in a huge variety of materials, designs and sizes: children's tallit from the 1960s and '70s or earlier, handmade tallit, antique tallit, rainbow tallit, and the newer range of interesting designs for both men and women. There are often meaningful personal stories to go along with these beautiful ritual pieces. Our exhibit will showcase the evolution of the Tallit and explain the background behind these changes.
Hanukah Menorahs or Hannukiah
have evolved over the years and are now available in a range of sizes, types, colors and materials. Our exhibit will showcase the changes in Menorahs over the years as the range of materials and designs has broadened.
Microcalligraphy
Microwriting or Microcalligraphy developed in the 9th century as a uniquely Jewish art form. It is the art of writing a section of scripture to create a picture.
