Yippee: A Journey to Jewish Joy” (2006)

Sun 24 Jun, 7 pm. 3800 Kalmia Ave, Boulder, 80301. Linda Loewenstein, Executive Director, 303-447-3313, bjcf@qwest.net. Boulder Jewish Community Center - [events]

$5 for JCC members: $6 for non-members When director Paul Mazursky (“Next Stop Greenwich Village,” “An Unmarried Woman,” “Down and Out in Beverly Hills,” “Enemies: A Love Story”), was told (by his optometrist) that 25,000—mostly Hassidic—Jews from around the world were expected to visit a small town in Ukraine for three days of praying, singing, and dancing, he felt compelled to make the journey himself. “Yippee” chronicles the award-winning filmmaker, actor, and scriptwriter’s whirlwind journey to Uman, the site of a unique, annual gathering of Jewish men making pilgrimages to the burial place of Rabbi Nachman (1772-1810). The adventure culminates on the evening of Rosh Hashanah in a mass expression of spiritual ecstasy.
